Set your uncertainty aside as you enter the Royal College of Surgeons, and request a Visitor’s Pass for the The Hunterian Museum. A hidden jewel in London, the collection is also hidden within the building itself – so watch carefully and follow the guard’s finger up the stairs to the entrance.

Packed into an amazingly small space, with every crevice filled from floor to ceiling, are thousands of items from John and William Hunter’s collections – from imposing historical surgical instruments to whole frogs dissected and preserved in formaldehyde. If it’s all too much to take in solo then take advantage of their free and excellent guided tours on Wednesdays at 1pm. Just don’t let it put you off your lunch. Additionally they have numerous talks, special exhibitions, family and evening events on offer that promise to enlighten and entertain on all manner of topics. Leave having learnt more about syphilis than your gynaecologist has ever told you.Quote_transparent
